I actually have some thoughts in the pipeline (most notably, I bought an SUV and I’m proud of it) that I’ve been meaning to get down on paper, and have had no time at all to do so. This post isn’t for that.
It is to celebrate the right to marry.
I know this is just one small step in a very long road, but John Schwartz of the NY Times outlines how an overturn of the lower court’s decision will be tricky at best.
In other words, State-sanctioned discrimination and bigotry is unconstitutional, and the right to civil rights trumps the tyranny of the majority that the defense is masking as “the people’s will.”
I hope this paves the way for New York to be next. I know it won’t be before I get married, but I hope it will be soon.
